What is the CLAT exam? An explanation of the law entrance exam

For admission to undergraduate (UG) and graduate (PG) legal programs provided by 27 nationwide Law Universities (NLUs) and a number of affiliated private law schools, the Consortium of National Law Universities administers the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), a nationwide entrance test.

To determine a candidate's aptitude for legal college, the CLAT 2027 test assesses applicants in English, Current Affairs & General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques.

CLAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Each applicant must thoroughly comprehend the qualifying requirements before completing the application. Admission through the entrance test is contingent upon meeting the CLAT eligibility criteria and fulfilling all CLAT conditions.

Every year, the Consortium sets the age restriction, educational requirements, and other requirements for CLAT exam eligibility.

An explanation of the CLAT 2027 syllabus

The purpose of the CLAT 2027 syllabus is to assess comprehension rather than memorization. Passages that call for both reading and thinking form the foundation of each section.

You must approach the curriculum as a collection of talents rather than as individual courses.

The breakdown by section is as follows:

Section

No. of Questions

Key Focus

English Language

22–26

Reading comprehension, tone, inference

Current Affairs & GK

28–32

News, legal updates, events

Legal Reasoning

28–32

Principles + application

Logical Reasoning

22–26

Arguments and conclusions

Quantitative Techniques

10–14

Basic maths + data interpretation

CLAT 2027 Admit Card

You must have the CLAT 2027 admit card to take the test. No applicant is permitted to enter the test room without it. It is anticipated to be made available in November 2026, around fifteen days before the test.

The admit card generally contains:

  • Candidate's name
  • Roll number
  • Photograph
  • Examination centre
  • Reporting time
  • Important exam-day instructions

CLAT 2027 Answer Key

Students can estimate their scores before the official results by using the CLAT answer key, which is released by the Consortium following the exam. This year, the answer key is expected to be released on December 7, 2026.

  • The preliminary answer key is made available on the day of the exam or the day after.
  • Students have a brief window of two to three days to object to any inquiry.
  • Before publishing the final answer key, the Consortium considers any legitimate concerns.
  • Shortly before the official results are announced, the final answer key is made available.

CLAT 2027 Result

It is anticipated that the CLAT 2027 results will be made available in PDF format on the official Consortium website in December 2026 or early January 2027.

The results consist of:

  • All India Rank (AIR)
  • Category rank
  • Total score obtained
  • Section-wise marks

Your All India Rank directly influences the NLUs you are eligible for during counselling. At the top, a difference of merely 1 mark can alter your rank by 70 to 100 spots, which is why precision counts more than attempting every question.
